Nick Tsagaris Mcdonalds | Francesco Bagnaia Takes Second Straight MotoGP Win

Just a week after winning his maiden MotoGP race, Francesco Bagnaia has made it back-to-back victories with a dominant display in the San Marino Grand Prix.

Key points:

  • Francesco Bagnaia beat championship leader Fabio Quartararo by 0.364 seconds to claim his second straight MotoGP victory

  • The Frenchman Quartararo still holds a 48-point lead over Bagnaia with four rounds to go

  • Aussie Jack Miller currently sits fifth in the championship, 94 points adrift

The Italian held off a late challenge from championship leader Fabio Quartararo but Jack Miller, Bagnaia's Australian teammate at Ducati who started second on the grid, had a disappointing afternoon, finishing fifth on Sunday.

Miller had a fine start behind the flying pole-sitter Bagnaia, outduelling Quarto on turn two to ensure Ducati controlled the race from the front.

But Quartararo fought back to go past Miller with 14 laps to go and, reduced to fourth place, the Townsville rider suffered more disappointment on the final turn of the race when he lost two places to Marc Marquez and Joan Mir to end up sixth.

However, he was promoted to fifth after the flag as Mir was dropped one position for exceeding track limits.

Bagnaia, who had led by 2.7 seconds at one stage, eventually had to produce a fine last lap to keep Quartararo at bay and win by just 0.364 seconds.

"Two victories in a row is incredible for me. I was struggling to win my first race… there was something missing. Now I'm very happy," said Bagnaia.

The Frenchman Quartararo now holds a 48-point lead over Bagnaia with four rounds to go, with Miller fifth in the championship, 94 points adrift.
